About this Event
Themes of ideal skiing in the advanced zone – expert zone
- Turn shape facilitates speed
- Speed is fast and consistent, and speed is carried from turn to turn.
- Emphasis on the finish phase decreases while emphasis on the shaping phase increases.
- Versatility
- The skier’s ability to adapt to most snow conditions, terrain and speed while maintaining the ability to carry speed from turn to turn.
- The skier can adjust technical intent in all situations.
- Fundamental focus (Regulate Magnitude, BLENDING)
Key ski performance
- The tail of the ski follows the tip of the ski through the initiation of the turn.
- The ski bends the most during the shaping phase/apex of the turn.
Key body performance
- The body shapes to align with the outside ski during turn initiation
- Stance width varies as terrain, snow, and speed dictate.
Activities and Outcomes for Sessions 1 – 5
Session 1 - Video Baseline: Each group will video 2 activities and review the video with their group to help establish a baseline of competence in at least 1 of the following areas: skiing, teaching, or movement analysis.
Outcomes: Each participant will use the video to achieve at least 1 of the following outcomes.
- Participants with a skiing emphasis – identify their most relevant technical focus that will lead to the most significant performance change.
- Participants with a teaching emphasis – identify a relevant technical focus in their own skiing and make a lesson plan.
- Participants with an MA emphasis – identify an accurate and relevant technical focus for at least 2 skiers from their group.
Session 2 – Alignment: Each group will focus on a specific element of alignment that is the most relevant for their level of performance.
Level 3 – Lateral emphasis/foot to foot: create angles in the body to align the upper body to the outside ski/get the helmet over the outside ski boot.
Session 3 – Turning movement emphasis: Each group will focus on creating accurate turning movements that are the most relevant for their level of performance.
Level 3 – Deflection emphasis: tip both legs and increase pressure to the outside ski
Proposed activity: railroad track turns or similar.
Session 4 – Alignment Emphasis: revisit the alignment for each group that is most relevant for their level of performance.
Level 3 – Lateral emphasis/foot to foot: create angles in the body to align the upper body to the outside ski/get the helmet over the outside ski boot.
Session 5 – Turning movement emphasis: revisit the accurate turning movements that are the most relevant for their level of performance.
Level 3 – Let tipping emphasis: tip both legs the same amount at the same time.
Proposed activity: railroad track turns or similar.
