RiverRun will be hosting another AKC Rally Handler’s Seminar on Saturday, March 21st, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. This event is designed for anyone who has started taking classes in Rally or is currently competing at any level of AKC Rally.
Seminar Topics
The seminar will cover a wide range of topics to help handlers and their dogs succeed in AKC Rally competitions. The subjects include:
• Understanding the signs and how points are lost
• How judges score differently for the same errors
• Building confidence in the ring and fostering confidence in your dog
• The importance of muscle memory for both handler and dog
• Focusing on your dog while remembering the course and signs
• Key cues your dog needs to know
• When to support your dog in the ring and understanding how too much support can create negative pressure
• Working on exercises that you find difficult to perform
• Addressing any additional areas or questions you have
About the Instructor
The seminar will be led by Paula Thomason, an accomplished competitor who has earned over 20 Rally Championship Titles with five different breeds. All but one of these titles were achieved in a minimum of 20 triple events. Paula and her dogs have also secured over 200 High In Trial titles. In 2021, Paula had four dogs ranked in the top 10 (specifically top 6) of the AKC Top Dogs in Rally all-breed standings, including:
• Ash - #1 German Shepherd Dog, #3 herding dog, #3 all-breed
• Levi - #1 Russell Terrier, #1 Terrier, #4 all-breed
• Spot - #1 Border Collie, #4 Herding Dog, #5 all-breed
• Patch - #1 Mini American Shepherd, #5 Herding Dog, #6 all-breed
Paula’s students have also achieved success, earning ribbons and Rally Championships throughout their training.
