AbhīRāmam -The Beautiful One -Bharata Nrithyam by Aishwarya Harish and NIYATI VIJAYITA-Bharatanatyam by Revathi Srinivasraghavan Aishwarya Harish hails from a family representing the fifth generation of performing artistes and is a disciple of her mother, Dr. Jayashree Rajagopalan. Harish has completed her Nritya Praveshika, Nritya Visharad and Nritya Shali at Nrithyodaya, Mumbai and undergone training on the nattuvangam. She has participated in productions devised by her mother’s guru, Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam. A grade ‘B’ artiste with Doordarshan, Mumbai, she is a recipient of the Singar Mani among other awards. ‘Abhīrāmam’- the epithet for Rama, signifies beauty. The birth of Rama itself is beautiful as Mahavishnu decided to fulfil his ardent devotee Kausalya’s desire for a child Revealing only to her his original four-armed form with Shankha & Chakra, He becomes the human Abhirama child to the delight of his parents. The most beautiful divine love- ‘Abhiramya Sringaram’, is portrayed in the meeting of the eyes of Rama & Sita. Tulsidas charms us with the description of Sita’s Swayamvara. Arunachalakavi in the Ramanatakam, reveals how the Abhiramata- the delightful beauty of Sita could not be withheld even by the vile Shurpanakha, who convinces her brother Ravana to make Sita his own. The Abhiramana Sundara Kandam, revealing the dedication and devotion of Hanuman to Rama is sung gloriously by Purandaradasa. He extolls Hanuman’s feat to unite the divine couple to rule over Ayodhya establishing the Abhiramaneeya Ramarajyam. Abhīrāmam, culled from several Ramayanas, brings together, some rare gems of Rama Katha. Revathi Srinivasraghavan is an acclaimed choreographer, teacher and performer of Bharatanatyam whose dance reflects her knowledge and creativity. Her style has widespread appeal. She is the Founder and Director of the Nrityaranjani Fine Arts Academy. She is a graded artiste of Doordarshan and has been empanelled by the Ministry of Culture – Festival of India Cell under the Panel of Artists selected for participation in Festivals of India Abroad. She has been a recipient of the Nritya Shiromani award among others. Using her acquired knowledge of music, she fuses complicated rhythms and cross-rhythms in her dance and has directed several solo and group Bharatanatyam presentations. This is a tale that conveys the angst of a woman. An unparalleled beauty, she was destined with a singular purpose: ‘Re-establishing Dharma’. Her saga was one of relentless suffering and disgrace, yet she faced each trial with resilience, vanquishing the perpetrators of her humiliation and agony. She embodied the highest ideals of courage, intelligence, and determination. Born unwanted by her father, without brothers or sons to stand by her, her only solace and companion was her beloved friend and confidant, Krishna. Every time “Niyati” – destiny,struck her down, she rose to face the challenges and emerged as the Vijayita—the victorious woman. An epitome of the spirit of triumph over fate.
