About this Event
Air-Powered Car Challenge
Ages 6–12

In Air-Powered Car Challenge, students become engineers and inventors as they design, build, and race cars powered entirely by air. Through hands-on activities, participants will explore how air can create motion and learn the science behind forces, energy, propulsion, friction, and vehicle design.

Students will construct their own air-powered vehicles using balloons and simple building materials, then test, modify, and improve their designs to make them travel farther, faster, and straighter. Along the way, they will discover how engineers use the design process to solve problems, improve performance, and create innovative transportation solutions.

Through exciting races and engineering challenges, students will develop creativity, critical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving skills while learning fundamental STEM concepts in a fun and engaging environment.

What Students Will Learn
  • Forces and motion
  • Air pressure and propulsion
  • Friction and vehicle performance
  • Engineering design process
  • Building and testing prototypes
  • Problem-solving and innovation
  • Data collection and design improvement
  • Racing and performance analysis

Final Project

Students will design, build, test, and race their own air-powered car, applying engineering principles to optimize speed, distance, and performance.
