About this Event

Trees don’t just grow—they speak. And The Folklore of Trees listens. Join the author and illustrator for an evening of conversation, Q&A and readings in the stunning St Saviour's Hall on Lambhay Hill on the Hoe.

Tickets are £5 - including refreshments.

For just £10 extra, you can take home a signed copy of Aidan's book.

This beautifully illustrated guide uncovers the myths, legends, and superstitions behind thirty-six iconic trees—from the Major Oak of Sherwood Forest to the ancient baobabs of Madagascar.

Folklore of Trees is shaped by the author’s personal connection to nature and creative vision, with a foreword by Chris Packham, one of Britain’s most respected naturalists and broadcasters. The author’s journey is as compelling as the trees themselves.

As a child, he often felt out of step with the classroom, but his curiosity about the natural world was boundless. He once hid a dead adder in his bedroom and filled a school shed with snails to shelter them from the rain. Trees became a quiet refuge—offering calm and clarity during times of emotional and mental strain.

To now publish a book endorsed by his childhood hero, Chris Packham, is a full-circle moment that would have astonished his younger self. “Trees are grounding giants,” the author says. “They offer strength and reassurance in a world that can sometimes feel chaotic.”
“This book reminds us of the enduring power of stories to connect us to our history, to nature and hopefully to an ever-greener future. We need to love life, we need to love trees.” - CHRIS PACKHAM

Please arrive 10 minutes before the start time.

St Saviour's Hall does not have step-free access, and the toilet is down several stairs.

Snacks, hot drinks and a glass of wine are complimentary.

This event is not appropriate for children under 12. All children under 18 must be supervised by an adult.
