About this Event
Join Us In-Person or Online for a Discussion of AI and its Impacts on Work in San Joaquin County
Join us on April 2, 2025, from 12:00pm to 1:30 PM for a discussion on what artificial intelligence means for jobs, businesses, and the workforce in San Joaquin County. Participate in person by coming to the San Joaquin Council of Governments (SJCOG) office at 555 E. Weber Ave. Stockton, or virtually through Zoom.
Drawing on a report released by the Center for Business and Policy Research (CBPR) in March 2026, the presentation examines how AI is beginning to reshape work in the region. Using regional labor market analysis and interregional comparisons, it explores how AI capabilities overlap with everyday job tasks, highlighting what makes the local workforce distinct and how employers, workers, and policymakers can prepare. Rather than predicting widespread job loss, the findings suggest AI is more likely to change how work is performed within existing roles.
The seminar will also feature a practitioner perspective from Jeff Gilbert, CEO of Stockton-based Verve IT. Drawing on firsthand experience as a practitioner, service provider, and business owner, he will discuss what AI means for local businesses and the region. Remaining competitive as a community will require thoughtful leadership, informed policy, and strategic investment.
