Join us for an afternoon of poetry with Rev. Mary Lautzenhiser Bellon, Ph.D.! As our featured guest, Mary will present her work, including from her book Awakened Geographies. After the featured presentation, we will break for refreshments, book sales, and socializing. All guests are invited to share for the open reading to follow!

Rev. Mary Lautzenhiser Bellon, Ph.D., is an ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church. She served a number of years as lead pastor at Collegiate United Methodist Church and Wesley Foundation in Ames, Iowa and spent twenty years prior to that appointment as the Director of the Office of Pastoral Care and Counseling in Iowa. For twelve years she served churches in upstate New York near Albany and completed her counseling credentials at the Samaritan Counseling Center of the Capital District. She earned the Ph.D. from Claremont School of Theology in Claremont California, her Masters of Divinity from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois and two Bachelors of Arts in English Literature and Women’s Studies from the University of California at Berkeley where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa. She has trained in psychotherapeutic trauma recovery, and has graduate certificates in Contemplative Practices in a Clinical Setting from Smith College of Social Work and Professional Supervision from Louisville Presbyterian Seminary. In addition to writing, Mary practices contemplative prayer and is an active member of several contemplative groups. Mary moved to Rock Hill, SC in December of 2024 upon retirement to be near her daughter, the Rev. Laurel Fraser who directs the Winthrop University Wesley Foundation. Her son, Liam Fraser lives in Portland, ME. Mary writes poetry and fiction, some of which has been published in Lyrical Iowa and Kakalak. She swims and has two dogs, Charlie and Rocky. She attends the Episcopal Church of Our Savior in Rock Hill and is a member of the Adult Forum there, has facilitated a midweek Bible Study and serves with her church at the Pathways meal for the unhoused. Mary has a small monthly practice of spiritual direction she offers via Zoom and teaches twice a year for the United Methodist Course of Study Program.
