About this Event

A Conversation on Medical Ethics, Healthcare, and Drama

Join a professor, healthcare leader, and educator for Beyond the Drama: What Grey's Anatomy Nailed (And Missed), an engaging exploration of how television portrays medicine, ethics, and the complex realities of life inside the healthcare system. Using one of television's most influential medical dramas as a lens, this conversation will examine how popular media shapes our understanding of doctors, patients, hospitals, and the difficult decisions that occur every day in healthcare settings.

Together, we'll explore the ethical dilemmas that have captivated audiences for nearly two decades, from patient autonomy and informed consent to end-of-life decisions, medical errors, professional boundaries, and the challenges of balancing compassion with clinical judgment. We'll discuss where medical dramas accurately reflect the realities of healthcare, where creative storytelling takes liberties, and how these portrayals influence public expectations of medicine and those who practice it.

This is not a fan discussion or episode recap. It's a thought-provoking look at the intersection of medicine, ethics, media, and society. Whether you're interested in healthcare, bioethics, psychology, storytelling, leadership, or simply curious about how television influences our perceptions of the real world, you'll leave with a deeper understanding of the ethical questions at the heart of modern medicine and why they continue to resonate far beyond the screen. No prior knowledge on Grey's Anatomy is needed to enjoy the event.
