AFTER DARK: SMOOTH JAZZ SESSIONS
Join us for an intimate evening of smooth jazz for lovers of contemporary sounds. The night opens with acclaimed Grand Rapids saxophonist, composer, and bandleader Isaac Norris, known for his soulful tone, melodic improvisation, and energetic performances. Blending jazz, R&B, funk, and neo-soul, Norris will showcase original tunes that are both sophisticated and accessible.
Norris has performed across the Midwest and shared stages with artists including Hank Bilal, Debra Perry, Urban Jazz Coalition, and Phil Denny. He has also collaborated with Nathan Mitchell, Lin Rountree, Nils, and Jordan Love. In 2021, he released “No Shade,” co-written and co-produced with The Smooth Jazz Alley, followed by his latest single, “Risk Reward.”
As leader of The Isaac Norris Project, Norris is a prominent figure in the Midwest jazz scene and a frequent performer at community and cultural events, including the Grand Rapids Jazz Festival and the Frederick Meijer Gardens Jazz Brunch series. From intimate sets to festival stages, he continues to inspire connection, creativity, and joy.
Headlining the evening is nationally recognized smooth jazz artist Phil Denny, known for his high-energy performances, chart-topping hits, and strong audience connection. Originally from Florida and raised in Michigan, Denny is one of contemporary jazz’s most celebrated independent artists, with multiple Billboard-charting singles and a global fan base.
Since releasing his debut album Crossover in 2012, Denny has become a leading voice in modern jazz. Singles including “Diggin’ On,” “Switch Up,” “Feel Alright,” and “Urban Troubadour” have earned major Billboard success, with several reaching the top of smooth jazz charts.
Denny has performed at major festivals and venues worldwide, including the Dubai International Jazz Festival, Seabreeze Jazz Festival, Cancun Jazz Festival, and premier concert series across the United States. He has also shared stages with artists such as Peter White and continues to headline sold-out events while hosting his own signature jazz experiences.
