Intro to Afro Dance: 4-Week Foundations Series

Wednesdays | 7–8 PM

This 4-week Afro dance class series is open to all levels and designed for dancers who want to build, strengthen, or refresh their Afro dance foundation. Each week focuses on a different Afro dance style, giving you the chance to explore new movement vocabularies while deepening your understanding of rhythm, groove, and musicality.

Classes include guided drills, foundational steps, and approachable choreography that allow beginners to learn with confidence while giving experienced dancers space to clean up technique, timing, and intention. Whether you’re new to Afro dance or trained in other styles, this series meets you where you are.

If you’re taking Afro dance classes for fun, fitness, cultural connection, or to refine your foundation across multiple Afro styles, this series offers a supportive, high-energy space to move and grow.

Weekly Schedule:

  • Week 1 – Jan 7: Intro to Afrobeats (Nigeria)
  • Week 2 – Jan 14: Intro to Afrobeats (Ghana)
  • Week 3 – Jan 21: Intro to Ndombolo (Congo)
  • Week 4 – Jan 28: Intro to Amapiano (South Africa)

4-week class pass available. Drop-ins welcome.

About the Instructor:

Sarah Powell is a professional Afro dance instructor and performer of French and Cameroonian descent. Raised in the United States, her passion for Afro dance has taken her across the world, training under leading Afro dancers and immersing herself in the vibrant styles that shape today’s global African dance culture.

With nearly a decade of experience, Sarah has studied and performed across diverse Afro dance styles including Afrohouse, Ndombolo, Couper Décalé, Naija Street Style, Amapiano, and Ghanaian Afrobeats. Her artistry and versatility have led to performances with renowned artists such as Yemi Alade, Tiwa Savage, Diamond Platnumz, BM, and Zlatan, as well as features in the Burna Boy Tour, Mr. Eazi Tour, and more.

Today, her mission is Afro Dance To The World, using Afro dance as a tool for freedom, joy, confidence, and transformation. She is deeply committed to making Afro dance accessible to all, while preserving cultural integrity and honoring the roots, rhythms, and history that shape the movement. Through her workshops, dancers of all backgrounds break free from self-doubt and learn to embrace their own unique expression with authenticity and pride.
