Let’s see… tell me if this sounds familiar.
You’re at a social, everything is going great, and suddenly the music changes.
A 2–3 Rumba Guaguancó clave comes in, or a strong Afro-Cuban rhythm starts to show up…
What do you do?
Do you keep dancing like nothing happened?
Or do you think to yourself: “ok ok… now what?” 😅
Especially when your partner suddenly starts dancing rumba and afro with full confidence.
If this has happened to you, relax. It happens WAY more often than you think.
And here’s the interesting part 👇🏽
What really makes Timba different from what we generally know as salsa is its strong Afro-Cuban influence—especially the rumba clave, which is the rhythmic foundation that holds this genre together.
That’s why, after this 6-hour intensive training, you won’t just know more… you’ll actually feel the music better.
You’ll move with more confidence, more calm, and much more clarity when dancing Guaguancó and Afro-Cuban elements within your Timba.
And the best part?
When a rumba block or an Afro-Cuban rhythmic pattern appears in the music, you won’t freeze or hesitate anymore. You’ll know what to do and why—responding with concept, flavor, and zero nerves.

🕛 12:00 – 13:30
We’ll refresh the fundamentals of Rumba Guaguancó and work on movements such as cachán (both lateral and forward) and the lateral step. The goal is to sharpen your foundation and, from there, start creating combinations you can take straight to the dance floor. There will be a strong focus on technique exercises so your movement feels clearer and more connected.
🕜 13:30 – 15:00
We dive into musicality and ear training. You’ll learn how to recognize when a rumba block appears in the music and how to start mixing Rumba into Timba. All of this will be explored through partner work, so it feels organic and directly applicable to social dancing.

🕛 12:00 – 13:30
We start from the base, with practices focused on movement quality. The goal here is to refine your style, improve your skills, and allow the level of the class to build naturally based on the group’s flow—always respecting each dancer’s process.
🕜 13:30 – 15:00
You’ll learn to recognize Afro-Cuban lyrics and rhythmic patterns within Timba that will serve as a guide for improvisation. We’ll explore how to consciously and playfully integrate and mix them into your partner dancing.
⚠️ Ladies, please bring your skirt or scarf; gentlemen, bring your scarf (zakdoek).
You don’t need to sign up with a partner, although it’s always more fun to come with one.
