🥁 What is SABAR?
SABAR is a high-energy dance from Senegal, known for its explosive jumps, precise footwork, and deep connection between dancer and drummer. It’s not just movement, it’s a conversation with rhythm, rooted in community, celebration, and culture.
🌟 Meet Our Host: Laye Serrere 🌟
Born in Dakar, Senegal, Laye Serrere is a dynamic and versatile artist whose talents span dance, music, and performance. He is a masterful teacher, dancer, choreographer, musician, and singer, known for his vibrant energy and deep connection to Senegalese traditions.
Laye has performed with prestigious companies like the Ballet Béjart and the National Ballet of Senegal, and was named Best Dancer in Senegal’s largest national dance competition, Oscar de Vacances.
Not only does he teach and choreograph, but he also plays traditional instruments including the Kora, Sabar drums, Bongo drums, and Doundoun. In 2017, he founded his own cultural company, Amlen Jaam ("Peace for everyone"), to share the richness of Senegalese heritage with the world.
Now based in both the Netherlands and Dakar, Laye Serrere travels across Europe offering unforgettable concerts, workshops, and performances that celebrate the soul of West Africa.
