African Chapters Book Club
About this Event
African Chapters Book Club
Explore African literature, diversify your reading, and connect through meaningful conversations with fellow book lovers.
This book club was created to encourage readers to diversify their bookshelves by discovering works by African authors and to connect with others through meaningful discussions. Whether you're new to African literature or a lifelong reader, everyone is welcome.
In September, we are reading Nervous Conditions by Tsitsi Dangarembga. Goodreads describes Nervous Conditions as a modern classic of African literature, highlighting its exploration of decolonisation, women's rights, race, class, gender and cultural change. The novel follows Tambu and the women in her family as they navigate the complexities of a rapidly changing world.
The book club will take place in the bookstore reading room. Please note that the reading room is accessed via a spiral staircase. If this presents an accessibility concern, please get in touch with me at [email protected], and I will do my best to accommodate your needs.
As the reading room has limited capacity, places are limited. If you can no longer attend, please let me know at least one week in advance.
Come ready to reflect and connect with fellow book lovers in a welcoming and inclusive space.
Refreshments: Tea, coffee and nibbles will be provided.
