African American Cultural Experiences Trolley Tour

Join Newport News Tourism for a guided trolley tour exploring the city’s rich African American heritage. From historic landmarks to cultural sites, this tour highlights the people and places that have shaped Newport News.

Date: Saturday, May 30, 2026

Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM (Approx. 3-3.5 hours)

Start & End Location: Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center

Tickets: $20 (includes a special souvenir)

Tour Highlights:

• Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center
• Torggler Center for the Arts/Ferguson Center
• Newsome House
• Lee Hall Depot
• Public sculptures honoring African American history

Trolley Features:

• Heated and air-conditioned for comfort
• Traditional wooden bench seating for a nostalgic experience
• Wheelchair accessible (please call the Visitor Center at 757-886-7777 when reserving your spot to adjust seating capacity)

Age Requirement: This tour is for guests ages 5 and up only. Due to the trolley’s design, it does not have seat belts or accommodations for car seats, making it unsuitable for younger children. We encourage families with children 5 and over to join us for a magical evening celebrating the season!
