Adrian West Band describes its sound as “Paul Simon meets Talking Heads.” They play original acoustic rock songs & instrumentals, a couple covers plus a few jazz standards. Normally a five-piece band, for this show they’re adding talented pianist and composer Michael Echaniz on the Back Room’s Steinway grand piano. This show will be a variation on the concert they gave in August at the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley which was a big hit with the audience. In addition to Adrian’s originals they’ll play jazz standards by the likes of Herbie Hancock, Norah Jones, Kenny Garrett, Roy Hargrove and others.Adrian's approach to songwriting is music first, lyrics second. (Fun fact: Paul Simon and David Byrne work pretty much the same way). He always wants his songs to “stand on their own” musically before a single lyric is written. This includes the melodies that will be sung and the complete arrangement of the song (verses, choruses, bridges, solos, the works). Once he has the music down, he explores the mood and feel of the music and lets it inspire lyrical content. Whether telling a silly story or grappling with some challenge facing humanity, his lyrics are fueled by equal parts hope, clear-eyed realism and lighthearted whimsy.
The Back Room is the perfect setting for this exciting show and they look forward to playing for you as you relax in one of the Back Room’s soft, inviting couches.

Tickets are $18 in advance and $20 at the door. Children under 12 are free. Advance tickets are available at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/adrian-west-band-tickets-1039087628067, or if the show is not sold out, you may purchase your tickets at the door before the show.
Doors open one half hour before show time. We accept cash or Venmo only at the door.
