About this Event
INSPIRE Portsmouth: Integrating Support for Public Involvement in Research at Portsmouth.
Research seminar series.
Seminar 1: Addressing equality, diversity, & inclusion in public involvement.
Join us for the first seminar in our series on engaging with people and communities in research.
Speakers: Emilie Smith (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Manager) and Yvonne Howard (Director of Student Racial Equality)
Public involvement in research is about carrying out research ‘with’ or ‘by’ members of the public rather than ‘to’, ‘about’ or ‘for’ them. Done well in the context of medical, health, and care research, public involvement helps ensure the right research questions are being addressed, and research is carried out in a way that is inclusive, and impactful for underserved communities, ultimately reducing health inequalities. In this seminar we consider how issues surrounding equity, diversity, and inclusion can be addressed when carrying out public involvement activities.
This seminar is open to all and can be joined either online or in-person (University Learning Centre, room 1.24). We encourage researchers at all career stages, public involvement leads, and members of the public to join us.
This seminar series is being carried out in collaboration with the INSPIRE Portsmouth for the MRC funding scheme. Further details are available here: https://sites.google.com/port.ac.uk/inspireportsmouth/home
