About this Event

As part of The Actors' Guild Manchester Launch, we are thrilled to be able to bring you exclusive, limited spaces for the first series of workshops:

Join Anji Carroll, Casting Director at the New Vic Theatre, for a practical two-hour workshop exploring the role of live music in theatrical storytelling.

Designed for actor-musicians, this session will explore how music can enhance narrative, deepen character and support dramatic storytelling. Working from selected scripts and scenes, which participants receive beforehand, you will first explore the text focusing on the story, relationships and emotional journey before considering how music might be used. Together, the group will experiment with different musical ideas, motifs and instrumental textures before revisiting the scenes with live music incorporated.

Throughout the workshop, Anji will offer insight into what casting teams and creative teams look for in actor-musicians: performers who use music with intention, demonstrate strong storytelling instincts, collaborate effectively and make clear, dramaturgically informed choices rather than simply showcasing musical ability.

Ideal for actor-musicians preparing for auditions or looking to develop their practice, this workshop offers a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience and professional insight into the qualities that casting directors seek in today's actor-musicians.

Actors can bring a maximum of 2 instruments.
