Action on Male Suicide: Dundee
About this Event
Male suicide is a public health crisis.
In the UK, suicide remains one of the leading causes of death among men under 50. We urgently need to better understand what puts men at risk - and what we can do to provide better support.
Action on Male Suicide: National Conversations is a UK-wide series of events bringing together research, lived experience and local knowledge to explore what needs to change.
Led by male suicide researcher Dr Susie Bennett, the day will include:
Understanding male suicide
A research keynote exploring why men die by suicide and the implications for how we understand and respond to men in suicidal distress.
Listening to local experience
Contributions from people with lived experience and local organisations working to support men, to better understand what men are experiencing locally and what is helping.
A local conversation about change
Participants will be invited to share their own perspectives and experience as we explore:
- What barriers are men facing when they need support?
- Where are the gaps in current provision?
- What is working well locally?
- What are the most important priorities for change?
The aim is not simply to share research, but to bring people together, learn from one another and build a clearer picture of what needs to happen next.
The insights generated across the National Conversations will also help inform the future work and priorities of Action on Male Suicide, a new research-led charity dedicated to transforming how we understand and respond to male suicide.
