About this Event
About our Curriculum
Acting for Improv is an advanced improv class for students who have previously completed least two full improv classes (at least one of which was taken at The Lab).
Are longform improvisers really Actors or Comics?
They are both and more; skilled improvisers doing longform scene work need to be able to see the world honestly and with comedic potential like a comedy writer, to master timing and delivery like a stand up comic, to see the outline of a whole show and put together the pieces like a director, and to be able to embody viewpoints, characters, emotions, and suspend the disbelief of the audience with only their trained body and voice as an actor. This class will focus on honing these acting skills so that you can confidently create an enveloping reality with your choices on stage.
If you’ve ever wanted to gain range and stage presence to be more comfortable as an actor in improv this class is for you. It will cover topics that are not often, or completely, addressed in improv classes including vocal expression, physical movement and posture, honest committed reactions, and captivating an audience. The goal of the course is for you to emerge as a stronger individual performer of improvised theater.
This class is taught by Shyla Hungerford, the executive director of The Lab.
There is room for 10 students total, and we will need at least 6 students signed up for the class to make.
Class Schedule
Classes will be held Tuesdays beginning September 16th to October 28th (with the week of September 23rd off) from 7:30-9:00
