Accessible Asana: Teaching Yoga for Every Body

A Two-Day Immersion for Yoga Teachers
It's time to expand our understanding of yoga asana and explore its deeper purpose. Within the context of Yoga, asana is not simply a collection of shapes to imitate—it is a tool for cultivating and circulating energy within the physical body. When we shift our perspective from form (what a posture looks like) to function (what a posture is intended to accomplish), we open the door to a more accessible, inclusive, and meaningful practice for all students.
This two-day training invites yoga teachers to rethink traditional approaches to asana and discover how the practice can serve people with diverse bodies, abilities, limitations, and life experiences. Rather than focusing on achieving idealized poses, we'll explore how asana can help students cultivate strength, flexibility, stability, mobility, grounding, and ease in ways that are appropriate for their unique needs.
Together, we'll examine a wide range of postures and movement patterns—including sun salutations, standing poses, and other foundational asanas—through multiple approaches. Participants will learn how to adapt and teach postures while working:
Lying on the mat
Seated in a chair
Kneeling
Using a wall for support
Standing with traditional modifications and variations
Throughout the training, we'll explore the functional intentions behind common yoga postures, practice hands-on assists and supportive teaching techniques, and develop the skills needed to create classes that are both accessible and empowering.
More than a workshop on modifications, this immersion is an invitation to transform the way you think about yoga itself. By broadening your understanding of asana, you'll gain practical tools for serving a wider range of students while remaining rooted in the deeper purpose of the practice.
Ideal for yoga teachers seeking to make their classes more inclusive, adaptive, and function-focused while honoring the essence of traditional yoga.
Although this workshop is geared toward yoga teachers, anyone wishing to learn how to adapt an asana practice is welcome to attend.
We will meet from 8:30am to 5:30pm on both days. We will take a one-hour lunch break each day. RYTs can earn 16 CEUs.
