Manchester Metropolitan University and The Woodland Trust warmly invite you to take part in a free community research event!
This event is part of the Access to Nature research project exploring British South Asian communities' connections with the Smithills Estate nature site in Bolton.
This welcoming and relaxed event includes:
-A guided walk around Smithills led by a local artist of South Asian heritage
-Exploring wildflowers and woodlands
-Talking about nature
-A creative activity including watercolour paintings to share reflections
-Make some new friends and enjoy some refreshments/lunch (If you have any specific dietary requirements, please get in contact on [email protected])
-Urdu- and Punjabi-speaking person available

Duration: Approx 2.5 hours
Attendees must be over 18.
This walk is approx. 1.5 miles / 2.5 km and includes some uneven ground. The walk length may be dependent on weather conditions. Please wear suitable shoes, such as walking boots or trainers.
The walk and craft session will be beginner friendly. All materials will be provided.
Due to the nature of the workshop, we would ask that people do not bring dogs, except assistance dogs.
To ensure group safety and conservation of the area, numbers are limited.
Accessibility:
Smithills Hall is accessed via a front door with ramped access.
Smithils Hall car park has several free spaces, including diabled parking spaces.
Public toilets including an accessible unisex toilet are located on the ground floor.
Please make the Woodland Trust team aware of any medical issues before the start of the walk, e.g. asthma, diabetes, etc.

About Aysha Yilmaz
Aysha classes herself as a Multidisciplinary Artist/ Creative Practitioner as her practice consists of Painting, Textiles and Mixed Media. She teaches Arts and Crafts to different groups (Age Friendly, Women's Groups, Children, and Families). The workshops she teaches are mainly textile-based such as Silk painting, Felting and Mixed Media. Her work is mainly nature-inspired. She has taught in many Primary schools as an Artist in Schools. She currently teaches regularly at the Whitworth Art Gallery on their Handmade programme and is a regular artist for UnityArts Manchester. She is on the Whitworth Art Gallery’s Advisory Group.
