About the Film:
Butterfly (“Papillon”)is an animated film inspired by the life of Alfred Nakache, a French swimming champion who participated in the 1936 Berlin Olympics and set numerous records. Facing antisemitism during the Second World War, he was deported with his family to Auschwitz. Only survivor at the end of the war, he resumed competing and participated in the first post-war Olympic Games in London in 1948.
Earlier this year, “Papillon” received a César nomination (the French Academy Award), a Cristal nomination at Annecy, and won the International Competition for best animated film at the Grand Prix at Stuttgart. Following it’s success, “Papillon” is eligible for Oscar consideration.
