Abstract Painting Class in a DUMBO Gallery Loft
About this Event
End your weekday or start the weekend with a brush in your hand.
Two hours, a 24x30 stretched canvas, and a professional abstract painter taking you from a blank surface to a finished piece. No experience required. You leave with your painting.
The session runs inside a working gallery in a DUMBO loft, steps from the waterfront. Light, sound, and scent are set deliberately. Every seat has its own easel, not a shared table. Come with a friend, a date, or on your own. Each session has a theme, as outlined below. Pick the one that sounds like you!
Class Themes:
- Thursday & Friday evenings: Abstract portraiture. Our "Luxe Night" session. We work the face and the figure, not as likeness but as gesture, structure, and color. Certain classes may include a partially dressed figure model for a portion of the session. Dates marked "with figure model" in the session title include a partially dressed model for part of the session. Those dates carry a separate acknowledgment at check in, and no photography, video, or recording of any kind is permitted at any point. All other dates work from reference material only.
- Saturday mornings: Gestural Abstraction. Our "Quiet Studio" session. The mark comes from the arm and the body, not the wrist. You will work fast, at scale, with your hands if you want to. Palette knives, rags, brushes and more are all on the table.
- Saturday afternoons: Action painting. Our "Kinetic Studio" session. Music is upbeat. You paint standing. Pouring, dripping, and flinging are all on the table, and the room is set up to take it. Wear what you would wear to demolish a wall.
- Sunday mornings: Color Field. Our "Sensory Flow" session. If wake and bake were a painting class. Slow, layered washes across the full canvas. Low light, long form, ambient sound, minimal instruction.
- Sunday afternoons: Interpretative. Our "Sunday Soul" session. Tap into your subconscious. You get one prompt, a person or a place or an object, and you paint it as you remember it rather than as it looks. Distortion is the point.
Need something for that empty wall. Start here.
