Dieu Donné Community Studio Day: Tours, Demos, & Experience Pulp Painting
About this Event
About the Event
Drop in and discover the art of hand papermaking at Dieu Donné, Brooklyn's leading nonprofit hand papermaking studio since 1976. Join us for a free afternoon at our location in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, offering an up-close look at the ancient craft of papermaking and the contemporary artists working within the medium today.
Explore our studio and gallery, where finished works are on view alongside didactics that reveal the processes behind them. Watch our studio team demonstrate sheet forming and couching, and then try your hand at pulp painting, freehand or with stencils, on large-scale sheets set up right in our wet studio. Everyone is invited to collaborate!
Guided studio, gallery, and archive tours will be offered each hour, hosted by guest artists and Dieu Donné staff.
PLEASE NOTE: While you'll be able to experiment with paper pulp, this is not a make and take event.

Shervone Neckles is a Grenadian-American interdisciplinary artist based in Queens, New York. She was a 2021 Dieu Donné Workspace Residency Artist and 2026 Paper Variables Artist. Working across textiles, prints, installations, sculptures, and public art, she creates immersive experiences that engage Afro-Caribbean diasporic histories, mythologies, and personal narratives. By weaving researched stories into artworks that function as both archives and rituals, she evokes ancestral wisdom from objects.
5:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Caroline Ongpin is a New York-based artist and was the 2025 Marabeth Cohen-Tyler Print/Paper Fellow at Dieu Donné. She has had residencies with Arquetopia Foundation and Guttenberg Arts. Her work has been shown at the Museo Taller Erasto Cortés in Puebla, Mexico; the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Manila; the Lower East Side Printshop and Print Center New York. Ongpin received her BFA in Studio Arts from the University of the Philippines and completed Tamarind Institute’s Printer Training Program. She is an instructor of printmaking at the Art Students League of New York and is the owner and lead printer of collaborative lithography studio Ermitanya Editions located in Brooklyn.
This event is made possible by the National Endowment for the Arts, Windgate Foundation, and additional generous individual donors.
