Welcome to Absolute Beginners Sewing workshop! Join us at Harborne Academy on: Wednesday 18 February 2026 at 6:30 PM TO 9.30 PM for an exciting evening of learning and creativity.

Do you want to learn to sew, then this workshop is for you?

Dorcas Designs Sewing: Tutor: Veronica Baxter

If you are a total beginner or haven’t done any sewing for a while, this workshop is aimed to help you learn basic sewing skills or refresh your skills in sewing. We will supply the machines, the fabric, the supplies and all the equipment. Once you’ve settled in we'll start at the beginning with winding a bobbin, threading up and making those first stitches. We’ll also look at common mistakes and easy fixes as well as how to change a needle, You will also be making an item to take home with you.

The workshop will include:

• Setting up the sewing machine and using its functions

• How to wind the bobbin

• Threading the machine

• Correct thread needed to be used on the machine

• Learning how to use the different stitches on the sewing machine

• Sewing two pieces of fabric together with the straight stitch

• Neatening a raw edge of a seam

• Adjusting the tension

• As well as making an item
