Join Perth NRM’s Coastal + Marine team for a unique Aboriginal cultural experience.
This hands-on workshop invites community members to come together to contribute to a large shared canvas while learning about Aboriginal art techniques and symbols from Aboriginal facilitator, Beverly. The artwork will reflect the coastal and marine environment, exploring themes of coastal resilience, dune protection and the role of people in caring for our shores.
Participants will help paint a large-scale 2m x 1.8m canvas, creating a meaningful piece of art that will be a centre-piece for our project - Building Coastal Resilience in Perth's communities. No prior art experience is needed — just curiousity and creativity.

What you’ll experience:
- A welcome and short coastal walk along Leighton Beach's dune to connect with place
- Learning Aboriginal symbols and painting techniques
- Conversations around coastal resilience and dune protection
- Creating a shared artwork as a community

Schedule
- 1:00–1:45pm – Welcome and short coastal walk to set the scene
- 1:45–2:00pm – Light afternoon tea at the venue
- 2:00–4:00pm – Aboriginal Art on Canvas Workshop with Beverly

What to bring
- Sturdy walking shoes (we’ll walk approximately 500m on sand).
- Sun protection
- Water bottle, reusable cup
