Abilities Tennis Volunteer Training - Raleigh/Triangle Area

We're thrilled you are interested in volunteering with Abilities Tennis of North Carolina (ATANC)! ATANC provides tennis programs for athletes with intellectual disabilities ages 8 and up. Volunteers play an important role in making these clinics possible for the athletes.

Volunteers assist on the courts with ball and racquet drills to teach the highly adaptive game of tennis. Abilities athletes vary in skill level, with some learning how to hold and swing a racquet to hit red-dot starter balls, while others play full court with regular yellow balls. Our training session provides volunteers with information about the Abilities Tennis program, their role as volunteers, Abilities Tennis guidelines, and details on how to work with athletes with intellectual disabilities. We will discuss in detail how to engage on the court with individuals with intellectual disabilities and review a typical clinic, including how to assist with basic ball and racquet drills. At the end of the training, you will participate in a "real" clinic with the Abilities Tennis athletes for on-the-job training. Come prepared to move on the court, and don't forget to bring your racquet and water bottle.

All volunteers must complete a background check through the town/city where they volunteer. Once you complete the training, you can volunteer at any of our locations. Locations can be found at https://www.atanc.org/clinics.

Come prepared to move on the court. Wear comfortable clothes and tennis shoes and bring water, sunscreen, and a racquet if you have one. We will be on courts 1 and 2 at Millbrook Exchange Park.
