What is Breathwork –
Breathwork is a breathing technique that involves intentionally changing your breathing pattern. It can be used to improve physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Soma breathwork uses rhythmic breathing synchronised to music. It also incorporates a breath hold, as made famous by the Wimm Hoff method of breathing. Research suggests it can significantly reduce symptoms of stress and anxiety. It does this by lowering cortisol levels as well as blood pressure and heart rate, which can help to improve your sleep.
What is Sound Healing?
Sound healing helps to influence brainwave frequencies, enabling a person to enter an altered state of consciousness like very deep relaxation. Sound healing can help to shift your brain waves to a certain frequency through a process called entrainment. Which is when your brain synchronises its waves to the same frequency of the gong and crystal bowls. These specific frequencies speak directly to the cells in your body to improve wellbeing and help to reduce stress.
What is Somatic Movement?
Somatic movement Involves slow movement which pays attention to your internal and physical sensations in your body has less regard for the external appearance. Somatic movement can be used to let go of stress, relive pain, release muscle tension or improve posture. This can allow us to isolate patterns of tension we may have imbedded into our nervous systems and in turn this can allow us to develop new and healthy patterns of movement.
What is Yin Yoga –
Yin yoga is a gentle mediative style of yoga, that involves holding stretches for longer periods of time compared to other yoga styles. This gentle practise allows for deeper relaxation as the muscles unwind and relax deeper into the stretch. This slow passed and quiet form of yoga can be the preferred yoga style for the older maybe less experienced induvial as is it suitable for absolute beginners. The practise emphasizes stillness and paying attention to your thoughts, breath and body sensations. Yin yoga has been found to be beneficial for stress reduction, mental clarity and flexibility.
What is voice activation –
Voice activation encourages humming, chanting and singing (if comfortable) in a group setting with the use of singing bowls as accompaniment. Humming helps to calm the body, as the vibrations activate your parasympathetic nervous system, shifting you out of “fight of flight” mode. Chanting helps you by calming your nervous system, slowing your heart rate, and reducing stress. The physical vibration of your voice and steady, rhythmic breathing clear your mind and bring a deep sense of inner peace. This allows individuals to rediscover themselves, to find their inner voice and rebuild their confidence and sense of self. Research suggests group singing has significant improvements in both mental and physical health. This is because it increases oxygen levels and triggers the release of oxytocin, which helps to improve mood and relieve stress.

Contraindications
Slow rhythmic breathing techniques of SOMA Breath are safe to be used for anyone and can be beneficial for all individuals.
Forceful mouth breathing, prolonged breath holds and extended intense fast breathwork/hyperventilation for more than 5 minutes, should NOT be practiced in the case of any of the following:
1. Severe/critical diseases or infections if it impairs your ability to breathe
2. Severe uncontrolled hypertension (usually after a heart attack)
3. Organ failure or late-stage terminal illness
4. Pregnancy
5. If you have epilepsy, a pacemaker, or irregular heart beat (Exception: your doctor gives you specific permission).
Some conditions (Eg: Tinnitus, hernias) may be aggravated by forceful mouth breathing, prolonged breath holds and prolonged, intense, rapid breathing/hyperventilation and careful attention to technique is required.
To learn how to do our techniques correctly and to see which techniques are most suitable for your situation we advise speaking to a certified SOMA Breath instructor.

Tinnitus
To stop the pressure that builds up in the head, aggravating tinnitus in certain cases, the participant has to make sure he's doing the neck energy lock.
This is when the person, when sitting down, lowers the neck a bit to create a "lock" preventing the air to go up.
SAFETY
We advice not to do SOMA Breath in the case of:
· Full stomach
· Flue or fever
· Driving a car or operating machinery
· In water
