Audience: this seminar targets a variety of dog people from novice dog owners to the more experienced dog owners, dog trainers, groomers, animal handlers, shelter workers, pound workers, veterinarians, and behaviour veterinarians.
The main discussion for this course will be dog reactivity, dogs that have difficulty focusing as well as other behaviour issues such as arousal, separation issues, etc.
The presenters bring a wealth of knowledge and some new strategies on how to help our dogs daily, as well as learning to understand them from a deeper level.
John has been a strong advocate for many years for dogs, hearing them, seeing them, and learning how to work with them through understanding and kindness. John and Helen are force free, fear free trainers, and align very much with our morals and ethics when it comes to working with dogs.
John and Helen will also do private lessons on November 11th. More information on this is further down.

Seminar Program
Day 1
Is my dog relaxed? John will demonstrate simple exercises so that handlers can recognize how well their dog will do in certain environments, how to recognize how the dog might be feeling and strategies to improve behaviour and emotional well-being of the dog and human. The outcome will be to reach goals and achieve positive results.
Helen will discuss and demonstrate the application of relaxation principles to assist inexperienced or fearful dogs or dogs demonstrating aggression or forms of canine anxiety, (including comorbid anxiety disorders such as: sensitivity to noise, motion, touch and proximity; compulsion behaviours; value attribution/resource guarding; and separation anxiety).
Helen will also talk through how to easily structure and implement a relaxation strategy, for instance: pre- and post- surgery, for blind/deaf dogs, dogs experiencing cognitive decline; as foundational training and a sequential desensitization platform for pups; preparation for new babies; multiple dog households and in the shelter environments.
There will be a demonstration or two with one or two live dogs plus handlers for this part.
For the afternoon, John will discuss how to understand and resolve common behaviour issues such as counter surfing, jumping, pulling on the leash, poor recall, reactivity, hyperactivity, and other problem behaviours.
Day 2
In day 2, we focus on reactivity, understanding the reasons as to why the dogs display aggressive behaviour, and looking at strategies that can help resolve the reactivity.
Video presentations and discussions will be the format for this day.
Both of the above days are a blueprint for topics and the speakers are happy to be guided by the audience, where small changes to discussions can be made.
There will be two demonstrations with live dogs and their handlers on this day.
Day 3 (Private lessons)
John and Helen will take some private lessons on Monday November 11th (6 spots in total)
Duration: 1 hour
Cost: $300 for participant
Cost: $190 for observer
Time slots: 9am-10am, 10:30am-11:30am, 12:00pm-1:00pm
