A Vigil for Idaho's Salmon
About this Event
2026 is projected to bring the smallest steelhead run since Bonneville Dam was built in 1938. A run originally forecast at 137,000 fish has been downgraded twice to fewer than 60,000. And in Idaho’s Stanley Basin, just eight wild sockeye salmon successfully swam back to Sawtooth Valley Lakes.
For decades, Snake River salmon and steelhead have struggled to survive despite billions of dollars spent on recovery efforts.
This fall, Youth Salmon Protectors are gathering to honor Idaho’s salmon, grieve what we stand to lose, and call for a future where these fish can return to abundant, healthy rivers.
