We are back with a year of monthly events for Queer BPoC kicking off in July, where we will meet for a games and pizza night!
About this Event

A Third place

The ‘third place’, is a term coined by sociologist Ray Oldenburg, it refers to a place outside of the home and work/school where you can relax and socialise with others. For example, churches, bars, libraries, parks etc. can be considered 'third spaces'.

For Queer People of Colour, third places are important as our homes and workplaces may not be places that we can show up as ourselves and feel comfortable in. The existing places that act as a 'third space' may be the same, as they are not designed for and by QBPoC.

This is where the name of the project comes from - we wanted to hold space every month for our community to connect, try new things and experience joy and relaxation in.

There will be different activities each month (decided by the community) and food provided at all events. Most of the events on the dates below will be held in Transmission Gallery except from August and November where we have a special activities planned!

If you need travel costs covered we can do this for you, and if there is anything else that you need to help you access the workshops please let us know.

Thursday 18th July

Our first Third Place is inspired by Skin Deep Magazine issue 10: PLAY, which we were kindly gifted to review. This issue reminded us of the importance of play in our daily lives, which we start to lose when we transition into our teens and adulthood when work takes over.

In the spirit of play, we are hosting a pizza and games night with different board games and puzzles to choose from (feel free to bring your own to show us too!).

If games aren't your thing, you're still welcome to come and watch or just chill in the space with other QBPoC.

This first event will also be the chance for you to let us know what you want from future spaces and how we can shape this together.

Important information

Please reserve a ticket through eventbrite before you come along, for safeguarding reasons, so we know who plans to attend.

For open sessions such as this one (July) you can drop in at anytime but we ask for other session where there are workshops planned (e.g., August) to try to arrive on time so that the workshops can run smoothly.

If you have any questions or want to talk to Mahasin about additional support please email them at [email protected]. They will also be at the workshops to help out and offer support to those who need it.

Please cancel your ticket if you are no longer able to attend, we ask that you do this 24-48 hours before hand so that we can plan accordingly.
