A taste of Valencia - Paella & Horchata
As part of a new series of workshops celebrating authentic regional cuisine from around the world, we invite you to discover the true flavours behind one of Spain’s most iconic regions.
Join us at Perth City Farm this July for a delicious deep dive in to the rich culinary traditions of Valencia in this immersive cooking experience.
Together we’ll explore the history of traditional paella, discussing and preparing ingredients side by side before watching the dish come to life in a guided demonstration using authentic techniques, equipment, and ingredients. We’ll create two variations: a vibrant vegetarian paella using fresh produce straight from the garden and a version including meat, while also enjoying some delicious horchata, another Valencian speciality.
Along the way, you’ll learn the history and cultural significance of these recipes, where to source key ingredients locally, and how to confidently recreate them at home including practical substitutions. This class blends hands-on learning with storytelling, flavour, and connection.
Enjoy a relaxed, social and inclusive atmosphere as you sip on horchata, share a generous serving of paella, and leave with new skills, recipes, and inspiration to bring a taste of Valencia into your own kitchen.
Meet Tim
Tim Greaves has over 25 years of experience as a chef in Australia and the U.K., focused on European and Modern Australian Fine Dining. These days he focuses on sharing his skills as a teacher and running his hot sauce business 'Foraged Fire.' Tim is passionate about sustainability, minimising waste and sourcing and eating locally and an obsessive forager, fermenter and home gardener.
On Saturday our weekly farmer's market will be in full swing during your workshop, so it's worth arriving a little early to check out the stalls and maybe buy some fresh produce.
Perth City Farm is a community urban farm that supports connected, sustainable communities. Established on a former industrial site in East Perth, this polluted site has been lovingly rehabilitated by volunteers to become a Western Australian icon for environmental sustainability and community engagement. We provide space and opportunities to build community connections, and educate and enable people to live sustainably.
