Can technology participate in reimagining healing rituals?
We invite you for a shared contemporary interpretation of the ancient ritual of Molybdomancy.
During the evening we will perform the ritual, together with the machine, and contemplate the meaning of using technology in the context of traditional healing.
A Taken Hand is a speculative machine that reinterprets the ancient ritual of molybdomancy, where molten metal is poured into water and its shapes get interpreted. The ritual of pouring the metal and assigning meaning to the resulting shapes is believed to exorcise the evil eye out of the body. It's a form of care giving and healing. Built from discarded objects and improvised components, the machine performs the ritual automatically and the molten metal object is 3D scanned and archived for the public to interpret.During the event, we will emphasize the roles of the different components in the ritual: material, movement, symbols, meanings and belief while specifically looking at the relationship between the machine and human interpretation. Participants will be encouraged to go through the ritual themselves, and to keep a physical or a digital form of their individual ritual’s outcome.
TututuStudio is a collaborative practice between artists and designers Adi Friedman and Ceren Sözer. working where storytelling meets interaction design. We explore everyday rituals and how they shape the way people behave, connect, and experience their environments. Using technology, artistic research, and storytelling, we create projects that invite people to look at familiar moments in new ways.
