Thirty years ago, The Cook’s Companion changed the way we eat, teaching us to love the ingredients and the seasons. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of this "kitchen bible," you're invited to a facilitated, relaxed picnic centered on community combined with treading lightly. As cook and author Stephanie Alexander writes: "The over-riding principles of choosing... local rather than long-travelled and premium rather than tired produce should result in the foods with the best flavour."
By coming together, we're practicing sustainability in the most delicious way - cooking from a book that helps home cooks use "what’s growing now" and focusing on whole ingredients rather than ultra-processed foods. It's an opportunity to enjoy the shared wisdom and skills of local home cooks for the love of eating food that has a lighter impact on the planet.
This is a plastic-free event, showing that picnics and large gatherings don't need to leave a trace. Whether you’re a lifelong lover of Stephanie Alexander or simply a lover of real food, come share a plate, tell a story, and help us show that home cooking is as gentle on the planet as it is good for the soul.
