About this Event
Join Japanese ceremonial tea master and calligraphy artist Mochi (@mochiakadorogame) for a meditative exploration of big brush calligraphy and the symbolism of the circle.
In this intimate workshop, Mochi will introduce the traditional tools used in large-scale brush calligraphy and share a brief history of Japanese kanji and hiragana writing. Together, we will explore the symbolic and physical meaning of circles across art, culture, and nature while learning the mechanics of drawing a large circular form with a single brushstroke.
Mochi will also share insights from Japanese Zen practice and how meditation informs artistic expression.
The experience will include a 10-minute guided meditation to cultivate stillness and calm. From that quiet space, each participant will pick up a brush and create their own circular symbol in one continuous stroke. Your circle might represent the moon, an eye, an egg, a clock, a wheel, a coin—or anything meaningful to you.
Mochi will demonstrate the technique and provide guidance and support as each participant creates their piece.
This workshop is about presence, intention, and the beauty of a single mark.
