About this Event

Welcome to Black Broadway! Celebrate Black history, and explore the musical and cultural heritage of Washington's Greater U Street on a public group tour curated by local author and historian Briana Thomas.

Here’s what you can expect:

-Duration: Approximately 2 hours guided walking tour with one of our licensed tour guides.

- View one-of-a-kind murals featuring notable history makers like Duke Ellington, Harriet Tubman, Barack Obama, and more.

- Learn about the jazz and cultural renaissance that shaped today's African American successes, musicians, talents, activists, and leaders.

- Explore U Street's vibrant Black-owned businesses and iconic attractions including the African American Civil War Memorial and Museum.

- Discover historic entertainment venues like the Howard Theater and Lincoln Theatre, which hosted legendary artists such as Billie Holiday and Louis Armstrong.

We've partnered with local business Compass Coffee to offer a complimentary cafe drink and treat tasting as part of your tour experience!

With the use of community storytelling and engaging visuals, we will stroll through the Greater U Street area once known as Black Broadway.

- Ideal for locals, travelers, corporate teams, non-profit organizations, and student groups.

- Perfect for celebrating Black History Month, Women’s History Month, Juneteenth, DC Emancipation Day, and DC Jazz Fest.

- A popular choice for team building and company gatherings.

We also offer year-round virtual tours for group gatherings and seminars. Contact the organizer for private group tours, virtual tour inquiries, or tour length customizations.

*Tour starting location will be sent in confirmation email.
