A Night of Fiery Dragons & Daring Quests
About this Event
Our favorite middle grade fantasy of 2025 returns with a heart-pounding sequel, an author visit, and a costume contest! Join us at the bookstore for a night of fiery dragons and daring quests, as we welcome Struan Murray all the way from across the pond to celebrate the release of DRAGONBORN 2: THE TWILIGHT CHILD (ages 8-13)! A magical school series about kids who can shape-shift into dragons, the first Dragonborn book was a headliner on our 2025 Holiday Gift Guide, a “Reading Past Bedtime” book club pick, and has been massively popular with young readers (and OTB staff!) for its scrappy protagonist, high-stakes action, and dragon lore. And the sequel is EVEN BETTER!
Struan will be in conversation with Isa, our bookseller extraordinaire and Fan of All Things Dragon, to discuss the series, including his inspiration and writing process. Coming in your best dragon costume is not required but encouraged, and prizes will be awarded! Following the discussion there will be an audience Q&A and then attendees will have an opportunity to queue up to get books personalized. Copies of the first Dragonborn book will also be available for purchase and signing (think holiday gifts!). The event is geared towards families but educators and authors are welcome to attend. All attendees must have a ticket. (Children under 12 will need an adult on premise but that adult is welcome to browse the adult side if they do not wish to sit for the event.)
Tickets come with a pre-signed hardcover copy of the new book, featuring a dragon-scale edge, full-color illustrated endpapers, an interior map, and gold foil on the cover!
About DRAGONBORN 2: THE TWILIGHT CHILD: Soar back into the world of dragons in the thrilling, fiery sequel to New York Times bestseller, Dragonborn. Having discovered her true identity as dragon, Alex Evans must embark on a dangerous quest to stop Drak Midna and his war against humanity. When tragedy strikes the island of Skralla, Alex and her friends journey north to the heart of Scotland, where dark plots are in motion, and humans and dragons fight side-by-side against a rising storm of ancient demons. Sinister forces are growing stronger every day, and as friendships fall apart and enemies old and new strike from the shadows, Alex must master her own fearsome power, and unravel a mystery that might just be the key to victory: the legend of the Twilight Child.
Struan Murray is…Scottish and grew up in Edinburgh, the youngest of a large, rowdy family of redheads. His debut novel, Orphans of the Tide, won the prestigious Branford Boase Award and was a Guardian Best Children’s Book of the Year. When he’s not writing, Struan is a lecturer in biochemistry at the University of Oxford.
