Shakespeare's most beloved comedy play comes to life on the Truckee stage featuring our talented teen students grades 6-12. It is the summer of 1969 and Theseus has just conquered the Amazon in battle taking the fair Hippolyta for his bride. It is the ultimate prize. Meanwhile his trusted friend Egeus is determined that his daughter Hermia wed the wealthy preppy Demetrius. Sadly, she does not love him. She is in love with a poor romantic named Lysander and he wants nothing more than to run away with Hermia and live a peaceful life. Helena, the best friend to Hermia, and a lady of means, loves Demetrius. It seems that they "hooked up" at a party once and now she's following him around like a lost puppy. Demetrius is something of a scoundrel and wants nothing to do with poor Helena.
In the forest, there live some free-spirited fairies. Oberon, the fairy king and his wife, Titania are in a fight. It seems she's kidnapped a "changeling boy" and wishes to keep him as her servant. Oberon wants the boy for himself. It's totally complicated. Oberon enlists the help of the mischievous fairy, Puck, to help him get even with Titania. Oh man.. it gets really good after that...
In another part of Athens is a group of tradesmen/or MECHANICALS. They are a community theatre group who wish to put on a play for the Duke's wedding. The name of the play is called: The Most Lamentable Comedy and Most Cruel Death of Pyramus and Thisbe. It's wonderful and yet terrible...and thus.. hilarious.
