A Love Supreme ft: The Sam Jackson Quartet

"Ubiquitous local bass player and Domino stalwart Sam Jackson presents two hard-swinging sets centred around the music of Thelonious Monk. Sam's schedule has him performing swing and early jazz at venues up and down the nation with numerous artists, including a recent UK tour with contemporary swing band The Easy Rollers. Tonight he turns his attention to the 1950s and 60s music of pianist and composer Thelonious Monk (1917-1982).
Monk was once famously described as the Midwife of Bebop: "he was present at the birth, but the baby doesn't look anything like him". A prolific composer and perverse genius, Monk allegedly wrote down his compositions only to lock the manuscripts in briefcase, forcing his musicians figure out the notes themselves...
Expect catchy melodies, strange harmonies and loping grooves."
