In the early nineteenth century, the fashionable landscape of men’s clothes shifted.Seeking to express their identity beyond conventional outfits, men embraced fashion as a symbol of confidence and nonconformity.
They became known as Dandies.
Dandies were men obsessed with their personal appearance, dedicated to fashion and fascinated with meticulous tailoring. The most famous Regency dandy was George ‘Beau’ Brummel, but what about the Lancashire dandy?
In this new talk, curator Scott Schiavone looks at Regency men's fashions through Lancashire's Hulton family, an important regional family throughout the Georgian and Victorian period, including a unique pink dandy suit in the collection at The Harris.
Part of the Style and Sensibility exhibition.
£5 per ticket, includes admission to the museum and a cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit.
