“A Home Worth Fighting For”: Film Screening & Panel Discussion
About this Event
Told through the eyes of longtime tenants fighting to save their homes, A Home Worth Fighting For exposes flawed political processes that prioritize private developers over the preservation of public housing. Falsely presented as tenant-driven, NYCHA's proposed demolition clears valuable land in Chelsea for market-rate development on public land. In response, NYCHA tenants have organized to resist a profit-driven plan that privatizes public housing.
Followed by a panel discussion with Natasha Florentino, the film's director and producer; Renee Keitt, president of the Elliott-Chelsea Tenant Association; and Layla Law-Gisiko, district leader for Assembly District 75, Part A, and president of the City Club of New York.
This event will kick off a monthly film series at Cooper Square about past and present housing struggles.
