A Day with Rian N. Jenkins: Storytelling, Writing & Community

Join us Saturday, July 18 from 11:00am to 3:00pm for a full day celebrating the work of writer and educator Rian N. Jenkins.
This is a free community event for readers and writers of all ages. We are opening the day with story time for our littlest readers (K through 5th grade), built around Rian's own books. From there, our older youth (middle and high school) will move into a writing workshop designed to spark their own creative voice, with artistic activities woven throughout both sessions. The afternoon continues with a Q&A where young people and adults alike can hear directly from Rian about the craft of writing and educating. We'll close the day with a book signing, photos, and time to connect as a community.
Over 30 years, Rian N. Jenkins inspired, entertained, and educated many through poetry, novellas, journalism, and performances. In 2021, she added author to her resume. At the end of 2025, she received her first publishing client. As of April 2026, she has self published four poetry books, her first two children’s books, A Blessing for The World and Heaven’s Jewel and first middle grades novel, Reverse.
She is a mother of a brilliant young king who is in college, teacher and a spoken word artist, podcaster, writing and publishing consultant, mentor and program director of CROWN HER. She also calls herself a LIT specialist who does book talks online while sponsoring All Black Author Book Drive and Giveaway in the Columbia area.
She is a native of Sumter, SC but graduated from Ridge View in ‘98 and Winthrop University in ‘03. She also has roots in Edisto Island, Hollywood and St Helena Island.
