=== Sambrook and Knighton circular ===
Sunday 7th June 2026
Start time: 10:30am
Estimated finish time: 3:30pm
Difficulty: Moderate
Distance: 13.2km / 8.2mi
Ascent: 116.4m / 382ft
Walk Leader: Martin
PLEASE NOTE: there are no toilets on this walk
Built in 1702 by Obadiah Adams, Sambrook Manor is in a small village on the Shropshire-Staffordshire border.
From outside the Three Horseshoes pub (closed), we head east towards St Luke’s church. We then turn north and will pass Sambrook Manor and the historic Mill.
Once out of the village, we take a figure of eight route, along quiet country lanes, passing Ellerton Hall twice, crossing arable land and then along a stretch of the Shropshire Union canal, west of Knighton.
As the walk will be a relatively early finish, we are inviting people to join us for a drink at The Falcon Inn, Wood Lane, Hinstock, which is a 5 mins drive (2.5 miles) from Sambrook.
This is a fairly flat route across fields and towpath. Some road walking along quiet lanes with little traffics. NO STILES. This is a perfect walk for those who often do leisurely walks, but wish to challenge themselves a little with a moderate walk. Well behaved dogs welcome.
Starting point:
Outside the The Three Horseshoes Pub
Ordnance Survey gridref: SJ 71134 24597

Nearest postal code: TF10 8AP
There are a number of parking options. The Three Horseshoes Pub appears to have been closed for some time, however the signage is still evident. There are a number spaces on the old car park for the pub, which is still accessible. There are also 2 laybys once you turn off the main road, A41, before getting to the village, which you may prefer to use. This makes the walk slightly longer.
TOILETS: There are no toilets on the walking route, so we have decided on a later start (10.30) to allow people to stop en route, if needed. Suggestions for this are Cambers Country Stores (A41) if approaching from the north. Alternatively, there are toilets and various facilities just off the A41 near Newport on Audley Avenue Retail Park, if approaching from that direction.
Please either confirm as "Going" on this event, or contact the Walk Leader direct if you would like to join this walk. "Interested" will be considered as not going.
Staffordshire Walkers are part of The Ramblers. We’re an incredibly friendly and welcoming group and can’t wait to meet you on our walks. You can walk with us on up to three occasions before you will be required to join the Ramblers.
