About Kyle: Kyle McGrath is a volunteer and board member of the Friends of the Middlesex Fells. He wrote a history of the 90mm Meadow for the Medford Historical Society. Kyle also conceived the 90mm Meadow ecological restoration project, which Friends of the Fells is currently undertaking in partnership with the DCR.

About the hike: The 90mm Meadow gets its name from the anti-aircraft artillery guns that were installed there from 1951-1958 as part of a ring of defenses around Boston. By the 1970's, it had become a unique pollinator habitat, home to at least 67 species of butterflies. However, today the meadow is threatened by forest encroachment and invasion by non-native plants. In this hike, we will travel through the Lawrence Woods to the meadow, learning about its history and modern efforts to restore it.
