Where Students Learn 1800s Skills and Become Historical Interpreters
Step back in time at Audubon Acres with our Living History Course, a 9-week immersive program designed for students 8 and up. Set on the historic grounds of Audubon Acres this hands-on course invites students to experience daily life of the 1800s while learning traditional skills and the art of historical interpretation.

AGE 8 and UP
Participants will explore historic crafts and trades such as fiber arts, woodworking, blacksmithing, soap making, natural dyeing, foodways, and other essential pioneer skills. Students will learn not just how people lived in the past, but why these skills mattered.
A key component of the program is interpreter training. Students will build confidence as they learn to explain and demonstrate historic skills for others.

Following completion of the 9-week course, students are required to volunteer for one day during our Walker Farm Pioneer Days event in November, where they will serve as student interpreters and put their newly learned skills into practice in a real public history setting.
Students have the option to become Junior docents at the end of the program. Junior Docents come in one Saturday a month ( other days available upon request) to interpret the cabin, Railroad history, Demonstration, or lead a historical trail hike.
