9/11 Remembrance Ceremony
As our nation marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, the Town of Clayton invites the community to pause and reflect on the day that forever changed our country. The ceremony provides an opportunity to come together, honor those who were lost, and recognize the courage shown by first responders in the face of unimaginable tragedy.
The Town's annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony will begin 9 a.m. Friday, September 11 at Municipal Park. The event is free and open to the public. Held at a new location this year, the ceremony will feature remarks from members of the Clayton Police Department, Clayton Fire Department and Johnston County EMS, who will share in remembering the sacrifices made 25 years ago.
One of the ceremony's most meaningful tributes will be a display of mini police, fire, and EMS flags placed throughout the park. The display will include 343 fire flags, 72 police flags, and eight EMS flags with each flag representing a first responder who lost their life while serving others on September 11, 2001.
A quarter-century later, September 11 continues to remind us of the strength found in moments of hardship and the selfless service shown that day. It also serves as an opportunity to recognize the firefighters, law enforcement officers, and EMS personnel who continue to answer the call in service to others.
