Recorded in 2024 in Berlin by three overworked café employees,Richard Setford (bass guitar), Dave Terry (drums), and Etkin Çekin (guitar), Hatemale’s two debut releases, More Factual Pain Music and Serenity Now, capture the camaraderie between the band members through noisy, playful riffs. A guitar, a bass, a drum kit: no vocals, no gloss. Just live, unscripted music cut into compact tracks that lean into a raw grammar of sludge and grunge but discard conventional posturing. What’s left is something noticeably more free-form. Improvisation is central here. Born from loose jams, the music resolves itself effortlessly into tight structures. The heavi- ness in both of the albums is underscored with humour and moments of clarity. The sound is deliberate, immediate, unsta-ble, and alive. Across both albums, Hatemale documents the moment of creation itself: music formed in the moment, loud and unfiltered.
