About this Event

What will Australian homes look like in the years ahead, and how will they make us feel?

Now in its third year, the James Hardie Modern Homes Forecast 2026 points to a more thoughtful, emotionally intelligent era of design, where how a home makes you feel matters as much as how it looks. Developed in partnership with global trend forecaster WGSN, the report draws on global design signals, local consumer research, and on-the-ground insight from Milan Design Week to map where residential design in Australia is heading.

This year's Forecast is built around four lifestyle themes shaping how we live: Creative Living, Evolved Living, Multigenerational Living, and Autonomous Living. These come to life through eight modern home styles: Modern Classical, Box Modern, Modern Farmhouse, Modern Heritage, Barn, Mid-Century Modern, Modern Coastal, and Japandi.

What you'll take away

  • A clear view of the eight design styles shaping Australian homes in 2026 and beyond
  • The four lifestyle themes driving how homes are being designed, used, and experienced
  • An architect's perspective on connecting interior and exterior spaces for wellbeing
  • Practical inspiration for bringing these directions into a new build or renovation

The session is presented by James Hardie, with guest presenter Justin Logan, architect and founder of OBI Office, and one of the expert contributors to the 2026 Forecast.
