This year's theme,
🌿 Medicines of the Lands: Healing Through Ancestral Plants

Across generations, plants have provided nourishment, healing, ceremony, and guidance. Medicines of the Lands: Healing Through Ancestral Plants
For thousands of years, Indigenous Peoples have lived in relationship with the lands and waters, learning from the plants that provide food, medicine, shelter, and spiritual connection. These teachings have been carefully protected and passed from generation to generation through family, ceremony, language, and lived experience.
This year's celebration honors the wisdom of our ancestors, the resilience of Indigenous communities, and our shared responsibility to protect the lands that continue to sustain all life.
🌿 Honoring Indigenous Knowledge
The teachings shared throughout this event are living cultural traditions that have been carried forward by Indigenous communities for generations. We invite everyone to listen, learn, and participate with respect and humility.
Many of the plant medicines, ceremonies, songs, dances, and cultural teachings presented during Indigenous Peoples Day are shared by Indigenous knowledge keepers for educational and cultural understanding. We ask all attendees to honor these teachings by not appropriating, commercializing, misrepresenting, or removing them from their cultural context.
Not every teaching is meant to be practiced or shared outside of the communities from which it comes. We encourage everyone to appreciate these traditions as gifts entrusted to us for learning—not as resources to claim or profit from.
Respect begins with listening, learning, asking permission when appropriate, acknowledging the Indigenous communities who have safeguarded this knowledge, and supporting Indigenous voices.
🌎 Community Values
We ask everyone attending to help us create a respectful and welcoming space by:
• Honoring Indigenous cultures, traditions, and ceremonial protocols.
• Asking permission before photographing ceremonies, sacred spaces, or individuals.
• Respecting that some songs, stories, medicines, and ceremonies are not intended to be copied, taught, or shared outside their original cultural context.
• Supporting Indigenous artists, educators, authors, and businesses by purchasing directly from them.
• Caring for the land by leaving no trace and helping protect our shared environment.
• Listening with an open heart and learning with humility.
