6 Week Oil Painting Course
About this Event
Course Description: Join artist Diana Tkachenko for a 6 week dive into the mechanics of oil painting at the Olena Chorna Fine Arts School located at 44 Gaukel Street, Kitchener Creative Workspace. This course will break down the painting process into clear stages helping you understand how to paint stress free in oil with minimal drying time between layers. You will learn how to start a painting using the imprimatura method before moving on to glazing techniques to build up rich luminous colours layer by layer. This course is perfect for anybody who already has experience with drawing and would like to dabble in oil painting.
(Materials are expected to be purchased by the student, please see the suggested materials list below. Students will be expected to work independently at home after each class.)
Suggester Materials list:
9" x 12" canvas, glass jar with a screw on lid (for mineral spirits), 2 rags, castile liquid soap or murphy oil soap floor wash (for cleaning brushes).
Paints: Titanium White, Cadmium Yellow, Cadmium Red, Burnt Umber, Ultramarine Blue (Recomended brands: Gamblin, Winsor & Newton)
Mediums: Alkyd Medium or Liquin and Odorless Mineral Spirits
Brushes: Pointed Round Brush (Sizes: 8 & 2), Filbert (Sizes: 10 & 4), Short Flat (size: 6), Long Flat (Sizes: 2 & 8).

About the instructor: Diana Tkachenko is a visual artist based in Kitchener, Ontario. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Concordia University with a specialization in painting. Rooted in studio practice, Diana brings a dedicated academic understanding of the medium to her creative practice which she hopes to share with others through her classes.
